John Mce asked:

The Security Service protects the country against threats to national security, safeguarding the economic well-being of the country. To defend against terrorism, espionage, crime and proliferation. It also provides advice for national infrastructure such as power, water and transport systems.

There are a range of roles available in the Security Services -

Surveillance Officer - A surveillance officer watches and reports on the movements and actions of those under investigation.

Intelligence officer - An intelligence officer uses relevant intelligence data to assess and investigate threats to national security.

Linguist - Linguists translate and transcribe intelligence information from bugged phone calls, emails and mail, and interpreting it into a social context.

IT Specialist - Providing protection and IT support to the government’s computer systems, networks and communication systems.

There are also a number of very specialist posts, as well as support roles including administration, security, driving and building services.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

There are strict residency and nationality criteria to work for the Security Service. Applicants must be over the age of 18 and have very special skills in relevant areas.

Surveillance officers need a full driving license as well as personal skills and relevant experience, rather than academic qualifications.

Intelligence officers usually need a 2:1 degree in any subject as well as any relevant experience.

Linguists’ language ability is tested during the selection process. Knowledge of certain languages, such as Arab, Sorani, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, Mandarin, Somali, Pushto, Persian and Russian, are preferential to others.

IT Specialists are in a better position with qualifications and experience, but the Security Service does administer it’s own IT test.

Training & Development

All staff are greeted with an eight-day induction, and most of the job specifications within the Security Services require that individuals are trained and developed.

For example, a new intelligence officer would complete a development programme which includes on-the-job and in-house training exercises.

A surveillance officer must complete a 75 day development programme which tests physical and mental ability. Passing this test is essential to remain in employment, and move onto the next training stage. It can take up to two years to fully qualify for a surveillance role. There are also many disparate elements which individuals would need to be separately trained for such as photography or bugging technology.

A Linguists training would include on-the-job and in-house development programmes, learning how to use special equipment.

Whatever the position, employees of the Security Services are encouraged throughout to take part in internal and external training courses to serve personal development.

Kevin

Rose Li asked:

So Bond bounded back this week in the new Quantum Solace movie with a villain which many are calling not as exciting as the villains past.

The critics might be saying that Dominic Greene isn’t the most memorable Bond villain that 007 has ever faced, which is not saying much considering the average intelligence of Bond’s usual villains.

Let’s face it, your average Hollywood evil overlord may be considered a genius by other characters in the movie but for most clear-thinking movie goers with an ounce of common sense they’re one step away from the people who ran Enron into the ground.

Hell, there was even a sketch on Saturday Night Live in the 1990’s, where several Bond villains were promoting a book “What Not To Do If You Capture James Bond”, the inspiration and result of which can be seen in the online list ” The Top 100 Things I’d Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord”

In fact, just a cursory look back at the James Bond movie series throws up several instances where common sense and just a simple series of electronics would have helped out the bad guy.

In their field of operation some spy surveillance equipment like GPS jammers, pinhole cameras, cell phone blocking bags and faraday cages must have been available so the question remains to be asked….

Why didn’t the villain use them?

So how could have those valiant and hard-working supervillains snuffed out 007’s life, ending the plans of nefarious media companies like MGM and 20th Century Fox? The ongoing plan to steal money from our pockets while distracting us with unlikely action sequences and unnecessary gadget and cleavage shots.

Goldfinger Needed Security Cameras

Very few people would need a plot synopsis of Goldfinger, the movie which resulted not only in the now-famous quote ‘no Mr Bond I expect you to die’ but in one of the most disturbing joke names of the franchise. In fact it’s better if you don’t think too hard about the name of the main love interest ‘Pussy Galore’ without some serious medication sitting close by… yeesh.

If Auric Goldfinger had put just a little bit of faith into training up his lower-level underlings or installing some basic security the Bond franchise might have ended there.

We all know what spy surveillance cameras are, they’re the little device which sits at the top of the cell and let people know what’s going on in a cell without putting them through the inconvenience of actually going in there.

So why weren’t the cells in Auric Goldfinger’s US ranch set up with such equipment, especially considering he had high tech equipment like lasers, nuclear bombs and cars made out of solid gold?

They wouldn’t need to be big, and in fact the smaller they were the lesser chance that the hero would find them and disable them in a bid to get the guards to enter the room.

At the very least Goldfinger should have told guards to get 10 guards with big machine guns to investigate when a prisoner suddenly ‘disappeared’ from the cell.

Hi. I’m a known mercenary in a movie about the British secret service. Could I order a GPS jammer please? (The World Is Not Enough, Renard takes on M)

So you’re the deceitful daughter of a British oil magnate, you’ve teamed up with an assassin of some note and you’ve captured the head of the British secret service. What do you do?

Want to read the rest of this blog?
Joel Owens asked:

James Bond may have the looks and the moves, but let’s admit it. He’ll never be as suave as he is without those James Bond vehicles he’s sporting. See Bond’s cars emit tear gas, run faster than a cheetah and disappear before your eyes. I’m telling you, a weapon of mass destruction hides behind those sleek and amazing machines he’s driving.

We’ve seen a wide foray of James Bond vehicles with which to foil his enemies throughout the series. Just like his watches and cunning gadgets, his cars function more than just a vehicle to get from point A to B. These vehicles are equipped with modifications like weapon system, alternate transportation modes, and even the ability to go invisible! With seamless technology in his vehicles, it is no wonder that James Bond is able to survive the harshest explosives, dodge the fastest bullets, and still look like he’s up for another martini.

To quench your growing curiosity about these four-wheeled beauties, here is a list of some of the James Bond vehicles that made our jaws drop.

Aston Martin DBS V12 (Featured in Casino Royale, 2006)

This is the personification of classic and beauty in four wheels mode. The Aston Martin DBS V12 might not have the hoots and whistles like an adaptive camouflage or anything as fancy as that, but its features are just enough to stop the villain from hoarding more money and eventually causing more worldly troubles. Aston comes with items such as a defibrillator and anti-poison/chemical combi-pens. These add-ons truly made Bond’s life easier in his conquest to save the world.

Aston Martin V12 Vanquish (featured in Die Another Day)

This car doesn’t only bridge the gap between the road and tracks. Staying true to its signature innovativeness and sleek design, this Aston plays tricks on your eyes with its awesome additional option, Adaptive Camouflage (the what?). In simpler and less complicated English, it just means that this beauty can literally disappear before your very eyes. Without magic or frills, the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish uses “tiny cameras on all sides to project the image they see onto a light emitting polymer skin on the opposite side”. Once again, in plain and less complicated English, the technology of the car makes it invisible to the ***** eye.

It’s beautiful and dandy, but the car also has deadly tricks behind its front-grille. Armed with a bevy of other cool gadgets, the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish also boasts of missiles, machine guns, spiked tires, and target-seeking shotguns. When all these are not enough to send to destroy the enemies, James Bond could always use the car’s customary ejector seat. Real sleek, isn’t it?

BMW 75Oil (featured in Tomorrow Never Dies)

BMW is the car of the elites, but through the magic and genius of Branch Q, this baby has been transformed from luxurious to deadly. It contains a surprising number of modifications including bullet-proof windows and body, tear gas features emitted from the sides of the car, mini-missiles coming out of its sunroof, metal spike dispensers in the rear, re-inflatable tires, and lethal grenades (whew). Being a true James Bond vehicle, the BMW 75Oil can be accessed only by Bond himself through his high-end mobile phone. If anyone else dares to lay a finger on its door handles, this BMW can deliver strong electric shocks enough to make anyone pass out. This is one touchy car.

BMW Z8

We first caught sight of this pimped James Bond vehicle in The World is Not Enough. This remote-controlled car is equipped with missiles and a set of weaponry that become really handy when James Bond had to destroy one of the helicopters in the film. The BMW Z8 is absolutely a mammoth of a vehicle.

We’ve seen Bond steer, ride and strut these high tech vehicles. With the release of his next flick, Quantum of Solace, more James Bond vehicles are sure to grace the screen. After all, a James Bond film is not complete without some roaring machines.

Gregory

Mariam Ma asked:

You might not be a reader of the spy genre but no doubt you have heard of Ian Fleming’s work. In 1953, the world was introduced to his creation of James Bond, the most popular fictional spy in history. With this British MI6 agent, Ian Fleming’s place in literary history was cemented. Upon Fleming’s death in 1964, he left behind a legacy of books and film that has captured the imagination of fans for decades.

It is hard to imagine that the legendary name of James Bond was inspired by the most trivial of things. The name of the famous spy was actually lifted from the author of a bird guide book. Fleming had wanted his hero’s name to be suitably dull and contrast it to the extraordinary events that would happen around him. And so the legend of James Bond was born, with the inspiration of a bird guide author.

Ian Fleming described his James Bond books as fairy tails for grown-ups. Perhaps that’s why he injected he embellished his own best qualities and breathed life into them in Bond. Both Fleming and Bond had a naval career background attaining the rank of Commander in the British navy. Both enjoyed the decadence of fine wines, champagnes, fast cars and cool spy gadgets. Bond was a character of elegant taste and in many ways, Bond was really a romanticized version of Fleming.

If Bond was an idealized projection of Fleming, then that would also explain his animal magnetism with the opposite ***. Fleming was known to be a womanizer and naturally, Bond took to his preferences of the perfect woman. With Bond’s Hollywood inspired good looks, he never had any trouble with the fairer ***.

Undoubtedly, James Bond’s exciting career, spy gadgets, elegant lifestyle, sexual exploits made him an engaging character to follow for men and women alike. It is therefore with some surprise that when Fleming first introduced him in the book Casino Royale, the legend did not take off. But as luck would have it, a certain American president name John F. Kennedy would appreciate Bond’s charisma and would name From Russia With Love as one of his favorite books. Perhaps he saw a kindred spirit? It was then that the Bond books would arise in popularity.

Today, the franchise of James Bond continues on in books and film even after the death of Fleming. New authors and actors continue the legacy and what better way to honor the author, than to let his alter ego James Bond live on forever?

Nancy

Joel Owens asked:

James Bond is machismo personified. After decades of spying, he still hasn’t been out of the top fictional characters the hit the big screen. This phenomenon can be attributed to the movie’s storyline that sends us to the edge of our seats. But then again, we cannot deny that we love the franchise so much because of the hunk and kick *** portrayal of the chosen ones—the James Bond actors.

To date, 6 actors have already donned the 007 cap and formed a culture of ******* in the process. Read this roundup of James Bond actors and take your pick as the perfect James Bond.

1. Sean Connery

Almost everyone never thought that Connery can pull off as James Bond, but under the tutelage of Terence Young, the British actor did not only bag the role as a gentleman spy, but is considered as the best James Bond actor to date. His portrayal definitely set the bar for succeeding actors to wear the suit. He starred in the first 7 James Bond movies and most of which are considered to be representative installments of the franchise.

2. George Lazenby

Rising up to the iconic portrayal of Connery proved to be a difficult task for George Lazenby. Without much acting experience and the maturity to face up to the studio setting, the former model was plagued with intrigues for his performance as Bond. Fans have already warmed up to Connery’s Bond portrayal, and this presented as another disadvantage for the Lazenby. His awkward performance in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service caused him to make his career as a James Bond actor go kaput in just one film.

3. Roger Moore

The 70’s marked a changed in Bond’s persona. This time, the job as a James Bond actor was taken on by Roger Moore, who apparently made a complete physical transformation to fit the role. The producers of the franchise only agreed to cast him if he shed some pounds and cut his hair short. The director’s constant reminder for him to lose more weight caused the actor to muse, “Why didn’t they get a thin actor who was bald to do the part?”

Roger Moore made a brave attempt to separate himself from the shadows of the first and iconic James Bond actor, Sean Connery by having a more lighthearted approach to his character. In his term as Bond, we saw a more playful and womanizing Bond in films like Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only among others. Unlike his predecessor, Lazenby, Moore starred in 7 James Bond movies.

4. Timothy Dalton

Dalton’s approach to James Bond is very different from Roger Moore’s. In two James Bond movies he starred in, he depicted Bond as a more serious, dark and reserved secret agent, a far cry from the flamboyant persona that Roger Moore created. His extreme masculine appeal made fans root for his version of Bond.

5. Pierce Brosnan

Another Englishman took over and this time, we’ve seen an actor who was never stereotyped as Bond for his acting flexibility. He was able to strike a balance between a tough and flamboyant portrayal of Bond and he just proved himself as a legitimate James Bond actor in 4 films.

6. Daniel Craig

The newest James Bond actor has been criticized for being the first Blonde and blue-eyed Bond. As evident in his portrayal in Casino Royale, Craig plans on having a different take on our favorite secret agent. With a more kick *** and real tough guy depiction of Bond, he finally managed to get the respect of his detractors. Sean Connery even agreed that Craig did a good job in his first James Bond movie. Fans all over the world are already anticipating his comeback as James Bond in Quantum of Solace.

Beth

Of course they did, it’s simply not human for one player to out-homer an entire league.

Statistics Through 8/23/07( Projected HR’S Per Aaron’s At Bats)

Name—Homers—– At Bats—- HR per AB—— Slugging Ave——- HRs Projected—————————

Aaron—–755——– 12364——–6.1% ————-.555———————– 755———————–

Bonds—- 760——— 9,801——– 7.7 —————.608———————–909———————

Ruth—– 714———–8398——–8.5—————.690———————–1051———————-

Mays—- 660——— 10,881——– 6.0—————-.557————————750——————–

Looking at those numbers, anyone can see that Barry Bonds is great, but **** Ruth was better. The **** won 12 Home Run titles to Barry’s two. He won six RBI crowns to Bond’s one. Ruth also led his league in Total Bases seven times, while Bonds achieved that feat only once. Ruth’s lifetime batting average was .342 vs Barry’s .299. Also weight training and “flaxseed oil” have helped out at the plate. According to baseball-reference.com, there were 1.12 homers per game in 2001-three times more than in 1927. ( Notice I didn’t even mention steroids )

Of course Barry was much superior in the speed department. He stole over 500 bases in his career while Ruth stole just 123. Barry is also the superior outfielder. It was fun to watch him play left field and cut off those hits. Barry won eight Gold Gloves during his career and many of us consider him to be the top defensive left fielder of all time.

One of the reasons Ruth had less at bats was that he pitched from 1915 through 1919. He was the best left-handed pitcher in the American League during that period with a record of 89-46 and posting an ERA of 2.18. He also was an incredible postseason pitcher. In three world series, Ruth pitched 31 innings with a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 0.87.

In summary, I think we all agree that Bonds is a great player. But when you think of Baseball and Homer Runs, you think of **** Ruth. Bonds could hit 8000 home runs and that wouldn’t change.

{ Barry Bonds Personal data:

Born: July 24, 1964 in Riverside, Calif————————————————– ** Height: 6′ 2 ————————————————————————-***** Weight: : 228 lbs—————————————————————- Experience: 21 years———————————————————————- College: Arizona State University——————————————————–}

Caroline

Joel Owens asked:

My Name Is Bond… James Bond

What do Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have in common? All of them have played the most coveted role of Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007. Unfortunately, they have now hanged their sleeves and made way for the new James Bond: Daniel Craig.

Born in Chester, England, Daniel Craig was the son of Olivia and Timothy John. His mother is an art teacher while his father was a former midshipman in the Merchant Navy and took several jobs after landing on shore. While attending high school at Hilbre High School as well as Calday Grange Grammar School in West Kirby, Daniel Craig played rugby for the Hoylake Rugby Club. Afterwards, he transferred to London to take part at the National Youth Theatre after shortly staying at Calday.

Movie Career

After making his big screen debut as Alex West in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001, Daniel Craig’s next assignment was Road to Perdition alongside Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. In the movie, he played the role of Connor Rooney, the son of an Irish mob boss, portrayed by Paul Newman.

In October 2005, Daniel Craig agreed to become the fifth James Bond by signing a five-film contract with EON Productions. After accepting the challenge of playing the spy, Craig’s objective is to bring more emotional depth to the role. After a year, his first James Bond movie, Casino Royale, hit the theaters.

Today, Daniel Craig is considered as the highest paid British actor. His other movie credits include the Golden Compass, Munich, Sylvia, A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, among others.

Casino Royale

This is the movie that started it all. James Bond goes on his first mission as a Double O agent. In his first mission after being recently promoted as a double 0 agent, James Bond competes in a high-stakes poker game initiated by Le Chiffre as part of his aim of recovering huge amount of his clients’ money that he lost in a failed plot which Bond quashed.

The movie starts with James Bond designated to monitor a terrorist based in Uganda. However, the mission goes array and Bond decides to investigate which leads him to the terrorist network of Le Chiffre. The work of his organization would come to an end if Bond would beat him in a poker game.

Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace, the 22nd Bond film, picks up where Casino Royale left off. This time James Bond sets off to Italy in order to ruin the plans of Dominic Green, who is aiming to launch a coup d’etat in Bolivia and take control of its water supply.

If the theme of Casino Royale focused on terrorism, the aim of Quantum of Solace, on the other hand, is environmentalism.

After the movie, Daniel Craig gets good reviews as the best James Bond after Sean Connery.

Quantum on Video

Daniel Craig lends his face and character in Quantum of Solace The Video Game. Intended for users of PS3 and Xbox 360, this video game harnesses the high definition graphics capability of both systems in order to produce the best James Bond game in history.

Lloyd

Fabiol asked:

We have all watched spy stories or 007 movies, where the latest (and sometimes most unreal) gadgets were used to kill or neutralize enemies, or just to listen to their conversations from a safe distance.

At those times, this kind of devices looked like something that could exist only on the big screen, or on news reports.

In the same fashion, years later, the first mobile phones, those brick-shaped and brick-heavy machines that could hardly be called handsets, looked just like another spy-story gadget, likely to be seen only in movies or in the hands of a lucky few.

The rest is history, mobile phones can be found virtually anywhere and we can be reached even in the most remote corners of the globe. And they are smaller and smaller every day, due to the miniaturization of electronics.

The same miniaturization is also visible as far as wiretapping is concerned. Nowadays, the so-called Miniaturized Bugs are smaller than the ones we could see in movies, and much more powerful and effective, with a longer transmission range and much less possibilities of being detected.

And as it happens commonly with new technologies, the best results can be achieved when miniaturized bugs meet miniaturized phones. This means that the most advanced of these listening devices feature an in-built GSM SIM card, which allows the bug to function basically like a cellphone, relaying the conversation to a third party safely waiting in any location where they can be reached by a phone call.

GSM Bugs can be programmed remotely, by sending a simple SMS, and can be set to activate automatically when they detect a sound, or when a car starts.

This kind of items can be purchased, along with many more, on specialized Online Spy Shops, along with several items for the security of your personal and business interests.

Jon
